Schools around here are teaching horrible things like math, science, reading, and critical thinking skills. Sounds as if America's public school system has become more of a propaganda youth program. Children are being instructed in what to believe.... When I was young, I knew 3 different people (2 men, 1 woman) who were immigrants to this country. They had been placed or forced into Hitler youth camps. They also learned to read, write, and do mathematics. The Third Reich needed them to be educated so that they were more beneficial to the state. That's not me saying teachers are a bunch of Nazi's. What I am saying is, it seems, that our public educational system has entered the political arena. Hard to deny since the big discussion around the walk-out is that, kids are being encouraged or allowed to make political statements at public schools, using taxpayer resources (since we paid teachers to be there and supervise the kids even if they aren't teaching them the required reading, writing, arithmetic). Neither politicians nor news services have missed this opportunity to press their agenda. It's a slippery slope.

Students were suspended for walking out of my local school district.
There was a symposium held with police and politicians where students could ask questions and express their feelings. Students were warned that walking out would get them suspended. Some did anyhow.
Eh...wot?

A student at a Minneapolis high school was assaulted by a mob of students after he carried a pro-Trump flag during the National School Walkout on Wednesday, police said.
The attack took place while students at Southwest High School were supposed to be observing a moment of silence to commemorate the 17 students and teachers who died in the Parkland, Fla. shooting last month, WCCO reported.
Police said the student was waving a flag in support of President Trump when he was ambushed by at least eight classmates. The mob forcefully took the “Trump” flag from the student, who suffered minor injuries, and damaged a camera he was carrying.
A school resource officer was able to stop the attack. There have been no arrests or disciplinary actions taken against any of the students involved as police continue to investigate what happened.

I’m glad my local school district leans less left than many of those being discussed here. Even their name, the Brandywine Bullets, is politically incorrect!

Personal political leanings of faculty and staff need to stay out of the classroom, and largely do, in my experience. I do feel for the teachers having to deal with parents who deny the existence of evolution and climate change though. Both are issues of science not politics. ..."The drought in California is caused by global warming, unless your a republican which don't believe in global warming." A direct quote from one of my daughters high school teachers. I talk with my kids so I know exactly what's going on. I don't live in a fantasy world. And now climate change isn't political. Unbelievable.

The school policy on guns is not applicable to what a student does when off school property. Bunch of people who are scared someone might shoot them and they have no concept of how to protect themselves or any will to protect themselves......is very disconcerting.

Here's another lovely story.
http://www.nj.com/ocean/index.ssf/2018/03/gun_group_says_it_will_sue_school_after_students_a.html Right down to demanding the student takes a sticker off the window of his truck that he drives to school , threatening to "punish" him if he doesn't. It is easy to see where all this is heading.

And in Ohio, a student was suspended for refusing to participate ! He wasn't suspended for not participating. He was suspended for going and sitting and a classroom instead of study hall like was instructed by the school.

Wrong. Read the actual story here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/educ...m=.1b939d523027"Jacob Shoemaker, a senior at Hilliard Davidson High School in Hilliard, Ohio, was in fact suspended. But not because he chose not to join his classmates and the hundreds of thousands of students across the country who walked out of their classrooms to protest gun violence in the wake of a Florida school shooting that left 17 people dead. It was because he didn’t go to a designated area of the school where the non-protesters were supposed to be and instead stayed by himself in a classroom." And in Ohio, a student was suspended for refusing to participate !

I believe the actual truth is that he did not want to make a political statement/take sides.
Anti went on walkout.
Pro went to study hall.
He did neither.....because he did not want to take a side. and that is where he was scheduled to be....no teacher because the teacher participated in the walkout.
But I could be wrong.....
